Set in Fleet Street, London in 1725, Todd rented a shop in this haven for cut-throats, harlots and gin drinkers. Poverty and decadence was widespread. He engineers a trap door in his barbers shop from where his clients fell to their death. He meets up with Mrs Lovett and uses his victims as ingredients for her ‘pork and veal’ pies.
